What is the Bharat Taxi App?

The Bharat Taxi app is a cooperative-based cab service supported by the Government of India. It aims to provide affordable cab and bike rides to the public while ensuring better earnings for drivers.

Unlike private platforms like Uber, Ola, and Rapido, which charge higher commissions, Bharat Taxi operates on a cooperative model. This means drivers are the primary stakeholders (owners), and they receive a larger share of the earnings.

Currently, the service is available in selected cities in India and is expected to expand across the country soon. Its main objective is:

  • Low-cost rides for users
  • Fair income for drivers

Bharat Taxi App Launch Date

It was launched by Amit Shah on February 5, 2026, with the aim of providing affordable and safe rides to the public while ensuring fair, exploitation-free earnings for cab drivers. This platform is based on a Driver is the Owner model according to which drivers buy shares to receive up to 80% of the revenue in the form of direct income, which guarantees increased income and increased transparency.

Bharat Taxi is the first ride-hailing program in India that is led by a cooperative. It constitutes one of the significant steps in the attempt of the Government of India to enhance the collaborative sector and foster the mobility options in the orientations of the citizens in accordance with the vision of Sahkar Se Samriddhi (prosperity through cooperation).

The Bharat Taxi was introduced on the 6 June, 2025, by eight national level institutions that operate in the cooperative sector, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. It uses a zero-commission business model, with profits directly split with drivers, which provides an effective local (swadeshi) alternative to investment-focused aggregage business platforms.

Presently, the services of Bharat Taxi can be found in Delhi NCR (delhi, Gurugram, and Noida) and Gujarat (Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, and Dwarka).

The application already has 990,082 registered customers and more than 300,000 registered drivers, which have already made 291,665 rides. Bharat Taxi will target the whole country with its services in phases by 2029.

Currently, the app does not have any convenience fee, platform fee, or commission to riders or drivers. At the airport prepaid booths run by Bharat Taxi, however, charge a fare of 7% on top of fare to cover the cost of operations.

Benefit of Bharat Taxi Driver

Amit Shah, the Union Cooperation Minister, introduced Bharat Taxi. It is a ride-hailing platform that is cooperative and is guaranteed to share profits and own the service to drivers. Drivers will be co-owners by investing 500 rupees.

In a town hall meeting with cab and auto drivers of the Delhi NCR area and Gujarat, Shah stated that the platform will share 80 percent of its profits with drivers according to kilometers covered whereas 20 percent will be saved to establish cooperative capital.

In the process, Shah told that he had asked existing companies in the question whether they had set any minimum base rate on drivers. They said no. We will guarantee your minimum income is cushioned. You must have profits beyond that also.

Shah likened the Bharat Taxi organization to the Amul cooperative model, and described it as an example of a worker-owned company.

He added that 3.6 million women had transformed Amul into a 1.25 lakh crore business spending 50 rupees each.

He continued by saying that in the case of the private company, the owners receive profits. In Amul, majority of the profits are returned to the producers. Bharat Taxi is no exception to the same concept in the mobility industry.
