  • Better call quality and control: Noise suppression, HD video, and group call waiting rooms improve the overall communication experience.

WhatsApp launches Web Calling and other features to enhance voice and video calling experience. With a battery of new features, WhatsApp is making its calling experience more flexible to help users connect more easily across devices. The company has announced some of the changes such as call directly from WhatsApp Web, transfer active call from one device to another, video quality improvements, background noise suppression and better controls of group calls.

The changes are designed to enable more convenient use of WhatsApp calls for consumers who use smartphones, computers and tablets during the day. Whether people are using their laptops or they are studying a shared computer or they are switching devices, WhatsApp is interested in ensuring a seamless communications experience, free of any interruption.

The new features are all part of WhatsApp’s attempt to become more competitive with other communications apps, enhance its voice and video communications and keep its privacy-focused end-to-end encryption.

WhatsApp Web Calling without App Download

One of the most significant changes is the ability to make and receive WhatsApp audio and video calls directly in the WhatsApp Web.

For those wishing to use WhatsApp’s calling feature on a computer, it was once a requirement to download the WhatsApp desktop application. The new release allows users to have all calling features directly in their browser without having to download anything.

It offers the ability to make both group and individual calls, and communicate straight from the web browser.

This update may be particularly helpful for individuals who use computers at work, shared computers or users who prefer to communicate online.

What’s App Web calling will also have a lot of the same features as calling from mobile devices; screen sharing, reactions, call history, and a dedicated calls tab to show recent calls and saved favorites.

Calls via the web will continue to be end-to-end encrypted, just as other WhatsApp communications are. Users will have the ability to make a call without any time limitations and without paying extra fee.

Transferring calls from one device to another seamlessly.

A big improvement is the capacity to transfer active calls from one device to another without dropping the calls.

People tend to begin their calls on their mobile devices when they are on the road, and then want to switch to a larger screen once they arrive at home or in the office. The new call transfer functionality enables users to seamlessly transfer group calls between devices.

For instance, an individual can start a meeting or discussion with a mobile phone and then switch the call to WhatsApp Web or Desktop for more convenient collaboration. The reverse is also true so the user can transfer calls back to mobile devices as needed.

This feature will make it easier for users who constantly switch between different devices during the day.

Improved control of group calls.

There’s also a new waiting room feature for group calls, which is a feature new to WhatsApp.

The feature helps the person hosting the call to control who enters the conversation and when. Users have the ability to add a ‘Require approval to join’ feature when creating a link for a WhatsApp call.

This option will create a waiting room for participants to wait in prior to joining the call. The host can then grant access for the participants to join in the conversation at their own time.

This can be beneficial when running larger group discussions, meetings on the web, class or community conversations when organizers want more control over the participants.

WhatsApp is also enhancing the first video experience in calls.

QuickHD is a new feature that enables users to get high video quality in the initial few seconds of a call. Before, video quality would sometimes need to be adjusted depending on the connection conditions.

With these changes, WhatsApp is aiming to make video calls more clear and natural from the get-go.

With more users using messaging platforms for business conferences, learning and personal communications, video quality is becoming a more critical factor.

Suppression of background noises for clearer calls.

Background noise suppression is another handy feature that helps reduce background noise during calls for clearer voice communication.

It filters out background noise that interferes with users, ensuring they can hear voices more clearly, even in noisy environments like busy offices, public spaces, or crowded areas.

The in-call noise suppression options provide more control for users to manage noise suppression settings during calls.

With the ability to add advanced audio features, this update caters to users who rely on online calls for work and collaboration, allowing WhatsApp to better compete with other platforms that already offer these capabilities.

WhatsApp moves beyond messaging!

Today, WhatsApp is not just a messaging app, but a full-fledged communication platform offering features like voice calling, video meeting, communities, business communication, and file sharing.

The new calling announcements indicate that the company is looking to make WhatsApp more productive in more scenarios and on more platforms.

WhatsApp is narrowing the divide between mobile communications and desktop collaboration with the introduction of web calling, device transfers, enhanced video, and advanced audio capabilities.

These changes further solidify WhatsApp’s competitive edge over rivals like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and other communication services.

Phased User Adoption – Users around the world

These new calling capabilities will be rolled out gradually, and will be available to users worldwide over time, WhatsApp states.

The changes aim to ensure that calling is easier, more flexible and more reliable across all devices.

With an increasing number of individuals using digital communication tools for their personal and business interactions, WhatsApp’s latest enhancements underscore its dedication to improving the overall calling experience while ensuring privacy and security.
