Whether new Gemini models, AI-powered agents, Search enhancements, development on Android or innovations in mixed reality hardware, Google was adamant that artificial intelligence will be a key part of the next generation of products and services.

Google’s new AI Foundation is Gemini 3.5

Some of the most important news was the launch of the Gemini 3.5 family of AI models. Google introduces Gemini 3.5 Flash, which will now be used as the default model for the Gemini app and AI mode in Google Search. The model, the company says, is significantly faster and more efficient than prior versions, and is better at coding, reasoning and agent-based tasks.

Gemini 3.5 Flash aims to enhance interactions, enable tool use, completion of tasks, and software development. Google also highlighted safety features, which aim to minimise the risk of creating harmful content while not restricting legitimate requests by users.

In tandem with the new model, Google introduced a revamped Gemini app with a “neural expressive” design language. The updated interface is smoother when animated, features better-looking typography, more visual elements and better haptic feedback across all devices.

The Dawn of a New Era in AI Creation with Gemini Omni

Google also announced the launch of the new family of multimodal AI models, Gemini Omni, which can create content based on almost any type of input. Unlike the previous video-generation systems that mainly depended on text prompts, Gemini Omni Flash can also provide video content based upon a mix of textual elements, images, audio clips, and current video content.

This is a major step forward in the advancement of generative AI technology. Users can input various content formats at the same time, and get coherent, contextually accurate outputs. Google’s ultimate vision is to allow AI systems to create virtually any kind of content from virtually any source, opening up the creative possibilities for consumers and businesses alike.

Personal AI Agents come to everyday life with Gemini Spark.Personal AI Agents now come to everyday life with Gemini Spark.

As AI agents evolve the way in which humans interact with technology, Google’s response is Gemini Spark. Spark is built on Google Cloud infrastructure using always-on personal AI assistant Gemini 3.5 Flash.

Spark integrates with Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and third-party apps like Canva and Instacart. It can summarise documents, draft emails, organise information, make study materials, track expenses and automate repetitive workflows.

Additional updates are planned to give Spark even more capabilities, including access to local files, and allow for increased personalization as per individual work habits and preferences.

Creating Android Applications Natural Language Style

To propel software development further, Google AI Studio introduced new features focused on creating applications using AI tools. Users can now create full native Android apps with just prompts.

A built-in Android emulator is also part of the platform for developers to preview, test and modify apps directly within the browser. The applications created can be exported to either Android Studio, GitHub repositories, or even a zip file for additional development.

Google is also going to allow for private app publishing, which lets users share applications with private users (friends and family) before making them public.

The Aura smart glasses are still in the process of evolving

Google presented an updated version of its smart glasses project, Project Aura, which it is collaborating with Xreal. The new prototype has been updated with a new exterior compute module, built-in fingerprint sensor, and better wear ergonomics.

Advancements in both Android XR, such as widgets optimized for smart glasses, Google Gemini-powered assistance, productivity tools, and improved integration with services like Google Calendar and Google Keep, were highlighted by the new demonstrations.

The changes indicate that Google is continuing to make strides toward developing real-world mixed-reality experiences that combine AI capabilities with wearable devices.

This Fall, new Android XR Smart Glasses are coming to market

In addition to Project Aura, Google revealed other smart glasses coming to Android in the near future from fashion brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

The glasses are primarily designed to be audio based, as opposed to the display-equipped mixed-reality devices. Users will be able to receive real-time language translation, navigation advice, summaries of notifications, and conversational interactions with Gemini.

Google’s plan is to make smart glasses more attractive and wearable by teaming up with established eyewear companies, and ultimately more mainstream.

Shopping online has become easier with the help of Universal Cart

When you have to do multiple orders, you have to deal with different carts and checkout procedures. Google is looking to make this easier with Universal Cart.

Users can add products that they find via Search, Gemini, YouTube and Gmail to a single smart shopping cart. When buying from participating retailers, consumers can use a single checkout process.

Universal Cart also checks for product compatibility, potential problems, and even adds in details about loyalty programmes and Google Wallet rewards so that users can make sure that they save as much as possible.

Inbox Search is conversational with Gmail Live. With Gmail Live, inbox search is conversational.

With Gmail Live, Google is introducing in-app voice-controlled AI experiences to Gmail.

Users can pose verbal queries to information in their inbox, rather than sifting through email conversations. The system can pull out pertinent information and give direct answers.

From finding confirmation emails to details on invoices or key correspondence, Gmail Live promises to bring a more ‘conversational’ approach to email search. The same functionality will be offered in other Workspace apps, such as Google Docs, Google Keep, Google Drive, etc.

Pics Makes AI Image Editing More Intuitive

Users of the workspace also get a new AI-powered image editing app, Pics.

Instead of creating lengthy prompts for each tweak, users can click on certain parts of an image and make comments about changes they’d like to be made. Gemini and Nano Banana 2 technology enable Pics to automatically apply specific edits based on contextual feedback.

Google will add these features to other Workspace apps over time, and in the process, make image editing more accessible for non-designers.

Search Becomes More Agentic and Interactive

Some of the biggest changes of the event were to Google Search.

The classic search box is now made dynamic and can accept longer, more detailed prompts. Whether it’s text, images, videos, documents, Chrome tabs and others, users can search with all of them at once.

Google is also rolling out information agents that can be constantly watching topics and deliver a recap of news from blogs, social networks and websites.

Furthermore, Search will now create interactive simulations, charts, graphs and custom mini apps directly inside of search results pages, so users won’t have to visit multiple websites.

With every passing day, subscribing to AI Ultra becomes more and more budget-friendly.

Google has announced significant price changes for its high-end AI subscription services.

Previously priced at $249.99 per month, AI Ultra now starts at $100 monthly. Project Genie and other advanced technologies are available with a higher tier $200 plan.

This price cut aligns with the growing competitiveness of the AI subscription market and could spur more professionals and enthusiasts to use it.

AI Detection is now rolling out to more Google products

Google is increasing its detection and verification efforts of AI-generated content, enhancing transparency.

SynthID watermark detection and C2PA Content Credentials are now available in Search, Google Lens, and Circle to Search to help users detect images that have been AI-generated or modified.

In the future, the integration of Chrome will let users check the origins of the images when they are browsing the websites, which will help reduce the amount of misinformation and deepfake contents online.

Google Beam Adds AI-Powered Video Agents

Lastly, Google showed off new features of Google Beam, a project that was formerly called Project Starline.

During the video call, the company demonstrated an AI video agent, Sophie, that can converse, understand documents presented to the camera, answer questions and make suggestions.

Google also showed its multi-person Beam conversations, which can be integrated with platforms like Google Meet and Zoom, adding more natural AI interactions to virtual communications.

Conclusion

Google I/O 2026 was a testament to a company’s dedication to integrating artificial intelligence into every facet of its operations. From sophisticated Gemini models to proactive AI agents, from immersive XR technologies to intelligent search experiences to productivity boosts, Google is crafting a future where AI isn’t just a repository of information but also a dynamic partner capable of understanding, reasoning, and action.

What the announcements show is that Google has got a definite strategic direction: to make its products smarter systems so as to help people to create, communicate, shop, learn, work and interact more efficiently than ever before. These technologies, expected to be rolled out in the next few months, are likely to change the way that millions of people interact with digital services globally.
