  • AI messaging creates a new challenge: WhatsApp must balance business opportunities with protecting users from overwhelming automated messages.

WhatsApp introduces new folder for business messages and tests offers feature.

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature to clear up inboxes by automatically putting large business messages into a separate folder.

As WhatsApp has continued to emerge as a key communication channel for businesses, the update is welcome. Nowadays, the platform is being utilized by businesses throughout the world to reach customers with promotional offers, delivery updates, account notifications and customer support messages.

But an increasing number of business conversations has produced a new problem for users: Personal chats are more and more combined with commercial messages.

Meta has been experimenting with a new “Offers & Updates” folder that will help separate the messages from big companies from regular chats.

WhatsApp Allows you to Better Manage Personal Chatting.

Over the years, WhatsApp has always been a personal communication platform that has connected people with their friends, family, and communities.

However, with the growing use of WhatsApp Business features by numerous companies, users are now inundated with messages from banks, airlines, retailers and other companies in their chat lists.

Many users find it harder to locate important personal messages being overwhelmed with business notifications and promotional content.

Meta’s new feature is intended to make the utilization of these messages cleaner, and take the messages of business out of the main chat timeline.

An update says that if a user is receiving a message from a large business, WhatsApp will automatically shift the message to the new “Offers & Updates” folder after a certain period of time.

The company is experimenting with various timeframes – messages could be moved after several hours, or up to 24 hours.

Users Will Have Some Control Over the Feature.

In WhatsApp, those who choose to view all conversations in one place will also be able to opt-out of this option.

Users will, however, have no control over when individual business messages will be transferred to the new folder.

The aim of this feature is to minimise unwanted disruption while ensuring business communications are still present.

For instance, discount offers, promotional messages, order updates and delivery notifications can be kept in a separate category while personal messages can be easily located.

The shift may also help to make messages more visible for businesses, as their messages won’t get lost among hundreds of others.

Initially targets large businesses.

The new folder is now being piloted with certain business and companies on WhatsApp’s Business Platform.

Meta is launching with large businesses, including banks and airlines, which typically send large amounts of customer notifications.

The initial test does not include individual accounts nor small businesses using WhatsApp Business.

But WhatsApp added that it could look at rolling this feature out to smaller businesses in the future.

The company will be looking at user feedback and business performance to determine if it’s ready for a larger rollout.

The new feature is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing initiative to “control business messaging and lessen unwanted communication.

Meta has made a number of changes to commercial messages over the past few years to ensure users are given greater control.

In 2024, WhatsApp introduced features that enable users to opt out of commercial content from businesses.

Later the company restricted the amount of broadcast messages that a business or individual could send in a given time period.

WhatsApp also implemented other changes to business communications, such as limiting outbound messaging if users don’t respond.

These updates indicate that Meta is aware of the difficulties in maintaining user experience while growing their business.

What is the Growth Business Opportunity of WhatsApp?

As WhatsApp continues to grow in significance for businesses, the push to organise business messages comes as a result.

In the Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that the revenue from WhatsApp in the business segment is experiencing robust growth.

The paid messaging and subscribed services segment made a big contribution to the company’s revenue growth, the company said.

WhatsApp is now more than just a messaging application. It is now used by businesses for customer support, their sales and marketing campaigns, payments, and automated interactions.

Meta has also made improvements to AI-powered business tools on WhatsApp, which now enable businesses to utilise AI for customer service and sales support.

It is said that over one million businesses are using AI agents on WhatsApp all around the world.

This AI challenge is about to begin.

Business messaging can open up new possibilities for WhatsApp, but it also poses new challenges.

With the increasing adoption of AI-powered agents by companies for customer interactions, users might also get more automated messages.

The platform needs to strike a balance between the value provided to customers and the amount of promotional content that doesn’t overload WhatsApp.

One of the factors that is vital to a messaging app with billions of users is trust and simplicity. Users might get bored if they feel that their personal inbox is being taken over by automated business emails.

The new “Offers & Updates” folder is a step towards addressing the issue, but there are some users who want even greater flexibility in business message filtering.

What are future prospects of WhatsApp communication?

WhatsApp is transforming from a messaging app into a full-fledged communication hub that connects people, businesses, and AI services.

However, the difficulty for Meta will be the ability to keep the personal experience that made WhatsApp so popular, while also providing for the expanding commercial possibilities surrounding the platform.

Having business messages separated would make it easier for users, but to make this happen, it is important to provide users with the meaningful control that they need to get what they want to see in their inbox.

With an increasing number of businesses using WhatsApp for sales, support, and AI-driven communication, the need to strike a balance between personal and commercial interactions will be more critical than ever.
