Highlights
  • Google acquired Wiz for $32 billion, its largest acquisition ever.
  • The deal strengthens Google Cloud security capabilities as cyber threats in cloud systems increase.
  • Wiz will continue supporting multi-cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

Wiz has been officially acquired by Google in a historic deal of up to 32 billion in cash, the largest acquisition in the history of Google. The deal is completed almost a year after its initial announcement and is one of the biggest strategic investments of Google in the fast-growing area of cloud security. As cyber threats in the global cloud infrastructures grow, the acquisition shows the intent of Google to enhance its cloud security and compete more actively in the enterprise cloud business.

Wiz is globally known as one of the most rapidly growing cybersecurity startups. The company provides a complete cloud security solution enabling organizations to identify, prevent and react to cyber threats in the key cloud environments. It has a technology that is aimed at safeguarding complex networks that operate across cloud providers. Following the acquisition by Google Cloud, Wiz has already ensured that it will still be operating under its brand and will not lose its dedication at securing its customers on all cloud platforms.

The method is especially important as nowadays numerous large enterprises can work in multi-clouds. A mixture of services on Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud is frequently used by companies. Security management in these infrastructures may be difficult due to the diversity of the infrastructures and Wiz has established a reputation of delivering a single platform that can secure a system in all these categories of infrastructures. This deal to purchase Wiz will place Google as a better competitor in the enterprise cloud security market.

The sources that are close to the deal have indicated that the acquisition occurred following the fact that Wiz achieved a significant milestone financially during 2025. The company also reportedly exceeded over 1 billion annual recurring revenue (ARR), which indicates the fact that the company enjoys a lot of demand in the market, as well as the fact that its technology is rapidly adopted. Such recurring revenue is a huge scale of stability and expansion of a software business and thus wiz is an excellent acquisition target.

Google in an official release clarified that the deal is a long term investment meant to enhance cloud security capabilities. The company highlighted that adoption of superior security technologies of Wiz will assist organizations develop and use applications more securely on the cloud and AI platforms. Due to the growing dependence on cloud architecture and artificial intelligence in the business environment, the significance of robust cybersecurity practices has been increasing.

The relationship between Google and Wiz is likely to result in the creation of a single security platform. It is the platform that will assist organizations to detect vulnerabilities more quickly, react to threats more effectively and safeguard sensitive information within their digital landscapes. The companies hope to make the ecosystem of cybersecurity more resilient and scalable by integrating the cloud-native security tools of Wiz with the global cloud infrastructure offered by Google.

Another one of the main motives of this strategic move is the changing character of cyber threats. The new cloud environment is dynamic and multi-faceted and it is common to have thousands of applications, containers, and other infrastructure components connected together. Wiz focuses on understanding these layers including code and configuration to runtime operations in order to identify potential security risks before they can be used.

Artificial intelligence-based threat detection has also been one of the heavy investments the company has undertaken. AI is useful in assisting security systems to compute vast volumes of data within a short time, spot patterns that are suspicious and detect a vulnerability, which would otherwise remain unseen. As the trend of AI-based development, often known as the vibe coding, is increasing, novel forms of security risks are emerging. Secondly, attacks on AI systems that are based on prompts have become more prevalent, and thus advanced security solutions are even more important.

Remarkably, Google did not succeed easily in its search to purchase Wiz. The cybersecurity startup was initially approached by the tech giant in 2024 with an acquisition offer of about 23 billion dollars. But Wiz at that moment turned down the proposal. Allegedly, the CEO of the company, Assaf Rappaport, believed that the company could expand considerably and wanted to keep on expanding the business on its own.

Although the initial offer was rejected, negotiations between the two companies relocated at the beginning of 2025. Following renegotiation, Google declared in March 2025 that it was in agreement to purchase Wiz at a valuation of 32 billion dollars, which is much better than the previous offer. The deal was an indication of a great desire by Google to increase its availability in the cloud security market.

Prior to the deal being made, it had to be approved by the regulatory authorities because of its magnitude and possible effects on competition in the technological industry. The acquisition was looked at closely by the antitrust regulators to ascertain that it would not lead to the competition of markets. Later, in November 2025 (in the United States), and in February 2026 (in the European Union), authorities approved the transaction.

The acquisition is now officially completed with the regulatory approvals that are in place. According to industry experts, the move has the potential of greatly transforming the cloud security scene. With cyber threats constantly getting easier and corporations shifting more processes to the cloud, organizations will find the need to seek integrated security solutions that are capable of safeguarding data, applications and infrastructure at the same time.

In case of Google, Wiz acquisition is not simple addition of an additional product to the Google portfolio. It is one of the strategic moves in developing a holistic security ecosystem in its cloud services. Through the incorporation of the technology of Wiz, Google Cloud will provide companies with a safer platform to create and implement digital solutions.

Finally, the acquisition that was valued at 32 billion shows the importance of cybersecurity in the cloud computing and artificial intelligence age. With organizations worldwide accelerating their processes of going digital, the investments in modern security technologies will become a key factor in making the innovation as safe and sustainable as possible.
