Halide Mark III Launches with Film-Inspired Photography Tools and Enhanced Photo Editing
Lux Optics has announced the release of its popular camera app for iPhone and iPad users, named Halide Mark III. The new update, which was first announced at the end of 2024, promises to bring a host of enhancements for photo enthusiasts such as a new, advanced film simulation engine, professionally designed visual styles, and a much improved photo editing workflow.
The release solidifies Halide’s place among the most sophisticated camera applications offered on Apple’s mobile devices, appealing to photography fans and professionals requiring more creative control than what the built-in camera application offers.

At the heart of Halide Mark III is the innovative film simulation system that imparts classic analog qualities and visual characteristics to photography.
The new engine is developed in collaboration with the renowned Hollywood colorist Cullen Kelly, who is highly experienced in cinema color grading, and it features five new photographic Looks that can be applied straightaway during shooting.
Each of the Looks has been designed for specific photographic situations. There are some that are designed specifically for landscape photography, and they can capture colorful images and details of the surroundings, and some are designed for urban photography and portraiture. It also features a separate black and white mode, with added film grain effects to give the film a more “analog” look.
The Halide system is different from the standard filters that are used after a photograph is made; this new system is built into the system of capturing a shot, letting photographers see the end result before hitting the shutter.

In addition to taking images, Halide Mark III will also feature a completely new editing environment dubbed Photo Lab.
Its feature is designed to make photo editing more user friendly, yet not to restrict the advanced controls to the more experienced. The first part of the editing workflow is a Quick Edit section, which lets users quickly apply film Looks, tweak exposure and switch between HDR and SDR effects.
If you want to work with more precision, Photo Lab offers a wide range of Photo editing tools such as crop, aspect, white balance, etc.
A highlight feature is the new Tone Fusion tool that restores detail to both the highlights and shadows. This feature allows the photographer to maintain the information in the image even in tough lighting situations, giving a more balanced outcome.
With the new Photo Lab, Halide becomes a more comprehensive photography application that will provide users with both image capture and post-processing.
Enhanced RAW Processing Capabilities.
Halide Mark III also adds a lot of professional photography formats.
The application is now able to handle RAW image files from a wide range of popular camera manufacturers for the first time, including Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Hasselblad and Leica.
The feature will offer photographers the ability to open photos taken with special “dedicated” cameras to edit them within the app’s editing space, adding to the app’s value beyond mobile photography.
The feature, which is still in beta phase according to Lux Optics, is a big step towards the future of Halide being a photographer’s tool for multiple devices and camera systems.
Redesigned User Interface
One of the other features that have been updated in the Halide Mark III is the updated interface.
The design aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency, making sure that crucial camera controls are within easy reach when shooting. The advanced settings and less commonly used tools have been combined in a handy three-dot menu so that there’s less visual clutter on the screen but you have access to professional tools when you need them.
The new design is designed to be more user-friendly and functional, while at the same time ensuring a cleaner and more streamlined shooting experience.
Importantly, Lux Optics has also noted that users who have been using it for a while now may have gotten used to the previous interface. For this, the company has included a switch back to the Halide Mark II interface, offering flexibility and helping the transition to the new design.
Pricing and Availability
Halide Mark III is ready now in the Apple App Store.
The app can be bought for a one-off payment of $59.99 or subscribed for $19.99 a year. The update will be available to existing customers of the Halide Mark II free of charge.
This app is compatible with iOS 18 or later and iPadOS 18 or later.
The larger display may make for a more convenient place to edit photos with the new Photo Lab features, although the iPad camera hardware isn’t designed to serve as a serious photography gadget.
